AB OBJECTIVES: Making a health-care-unit model including psychological and
emotional supports for the infected persons. HISTORY OF PRACTICES: We
have tried to make a model of health-care-unit for PWA from 1985 when we
experienced the first AIDS case and recognized the importance of care
for the infected persons not only physically, but also emotionally,
psychologically and socially. We held conferences frequently about how
to meet demands from the infected persons. We opened the clinic for PWA
at the beginning of October 1985 and hot-line in January 1987.
Fortunately, we could get human resources, counselors and psychiatrist.
Cooperation among other clinical fields had been established gradually.
We perticipated in community-based organizations which were going to
support the infected persons. Two of voluntary activities among them had
offered their services supporting PWA to us in 1988. Our care-unit have
contained doctors, nurses, case-workers, counselors, and a psychiatrist.
We can make a individual care-unit for PWA with voluntary activities.
PROBLEMS: 1) How to recruit human resources for our staff. 2) How to
gain individual needs of PWA and maintain their QOL. 3) How to get
effective and friendly cooperation with other specialities. 4) How to
make more appropriate net-work for PWA among medical institutes,
welfares and voluntary activities. 5) How to evaluate stress on our
health care workers, and how to save them. 6) How to get the general
recognition to making the care-unit.
